Building Tours - Doors Open Days 2026

Visit Edinburgh Printmakers for Doors Open Day 2026 and explore the historic Castle Mills building.

Doors Open Days is Scotland’s largest free festival that celebrates places and stories, new and old. Every year Edinburgh Printmakers organises free building tours and other activities alongside our usual programme of exhibitions, courses, and workshops.

The Doors Open Days Building Tours will visit the Printmaking Studio and Archive while learning about the rich history of Fountainbridge area and of the history of our heritage building when it was Castle Silk Mills, the headquarters of the North British Rubber Company, and later the Scottish & Newcastle Ltd Breweries.

Building tours are free, but we encourage you to book in advance to secure your place. We may be able to show visitors around the building outwith these times, subject to staff capacity.

Our exhibitions, which are free to visit, will also be open 10am-6pm alongside cafe KUBA.  

The 2026 shared theme for Doors Open Days 2026 is Heritage at Risk: Revive, Resist, Reimagine.

Revive highlights efforts to bring endangered traditions, sites, and stories back to life – through craft workshops, oral history projects, and cultural festivals. Resist speaks to communities standing up against threats like climate change, conflict, and overdevelopment, using heritage as a source of identity, resilience, and advocacy. Reimagine encourages new ways of engaging with heritage – digitally, artistically, or across cultures – to ensure it remains meaningful, accessible, and alive for future generations.
