 lithographer and artist Alastair Clark. Stone Lithography\, the original t
 ype of lithography\, is still favoured by many artists. Drawing directly o
 nto a prepared limestone surface gives opportunity for a spontaneous appro
 ach to mark-making. Find out how artists with wide ranging styles\, from M
 C Escher\, Picasso\, Jasper Johns\, and Kathe Kolwitz\, have delighted in 
 the subtleties of the stone. This course gives a comprehensive introductio
 n to stone lithography\, and is suitable for people without previous litho
 graphy experience or for those wishing to refresh their skills. Emphasis i
 s given to stone lithography as a drawing and painting medium\, working di
 rectly on this wonderful robust drawing surface. Learn how to paint with w
 ater-tusche washes\, achieving the astonishing 'reticulated washes' peculi
 ar to stone lithography. Initially focusing on learning the process and wo
 rking in monochrome\, we will explore traditional approaches to mark-makin
 g using tusche crayon and wash as well as alternative drawing methods. Lea
 rn all about processing of images on stone and how to stabilise the image 
 for printing before taking a number of prints to show the development of y
 our drawing at different stages. Move on to look at how to add additional 
 colours to produce layered colour prints. During the course we will work t
